Vintage and early example of the "Sinus" lounge chair by Reinhold Adolf and Hans-Jürgen Schräpfer, designed in 1976 for COR Germany and still in its original dark brown coloured leather! What we have here is one of the finest European lounge chairs ever designed. The chair is made of stainless steel with brown leather cushions and armrests. This early, first edition example of the 1970s is in good vintage condition with a patina to the leather and is very comfortable. It has traces of use to the leather arm rests and some rusty spots on the frame. We all know the Classic and famous designs by Danish legends like Poul Kjaerholm, Arne Jacobsen and Arne Vodder. Or the thick bull hide sofa's and lounge chairs by De Sede. They all did some magnificent designing and were in some way the fathers of modern design. Their designs were clever and timeless, and still being sought after by collectors all-over the world. But sometimes we forget about those other designers. Those designers who made something that is so unique, it would be equally beautiful as the Classic items everybody knows. We think this lounge chair, the "Sinus" chair by Reinhold Adolf and Hans-Jürgen Schräpfer for COR Germany, is one of those items. Not only do we think it is comparable to other top designs, but we actually find it one of the most beautiful and clever designed chairs from the European mid-century. When looking at the chair it is clear why they named it "Sinus". A sinus (sine in English) is a mathematical function to define an angle. This angle forms a line or curve in a graph. A same curve can be seen when you view the chair and ottoman from the side. This chair is not complete without its ottoman, because without, it fails to draw that line or sine. When you place the ottoman exactly in front of the chair, it looks like one object. The metal feet and leather cushions look connected and because of its length, it transforms from a lounge or armchairto a chaise longue. All without having the impression it consists of two parts. This item would look beautiful in any modern interior and will make a great match with a Poul Kjaerholm PK61 coffee table or PK54 dining table. But also with the leather "snake" modular DS600 sofa by De Sede, Egg Chair by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen and Eames lounge chair. Or maybe a nice Danish mid-century teak, rosewood sideboard or credenza with metal feet. It has many resemblances with the lounge chair by Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin.

Cor is Latin for heart, and COR furniture exemplifies the qualities at the heart of exceptional design: practicality, comfort and style. COR was founded in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, Germany, in 1954 by Leo Lübke — in the name of his son, Helmut — and the Prince of Bentheim-Tecklenburg, a northern German county. Nearly a couple of decades prior, in 1937, a manufacturer of bedroom furniture called Interlübke was established by Leo and his brother Hans. The latter’s son Horst, who was managing partner from 1972, retired during the 1990s and his son Helmut Lübke joined Interlübke and shifted the brand’s focus toward modular furniture systems. During the 1980s, the Prince of Bentheim-Tecklenburg left COR and the Lübke family became its sole owner. In 2006, COR-Interlübke retail locations opened their doors.

COR made its mark in 1959 with a sleek modular seating system consisting of five parts called Quinta, which was created by designer Michael Bayer. The upholstered line boasted clean, angular contours and appealed to the day's ever-broadening flexible interior design sensibilities. It remained in production until 1978. The success of the Quinta was followed by the 1964 Conseta system, which featured a sofa and other pieces of seating designed by Friedrich Wilhelm Möller.

The following decades saw more successful collaborations with designers like Peter Maly and Luigi Colani. The latter, a German industrial designer born Lutz Colani, created a range of gorgeous organically shaped Space Age seating for BASF and Fritz Hansen, serveware for Rosenthal and worked on automobile designs for Fiat. Colani designed the popular Orbis line for COR during the 1970s.

In 2000, the Arthe sofa by Wulf Schneider was awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award from the North Rhine-Westphalia Design Centre.

COR is still owned and operated by the Lübke family’s parent company Gebrüder Lübke GmbH Co. KG and continues to produce furniture at the Rheda-Wiedenbrück factory, sourcing leather from southern Germany and upholstery from Italy. The company partnered with Jehs+Laub, a renowned Stuttgart-based studio, in 2010.
