About the Item

An elegant and most decorative French early 19th century Empire period Mahogany and Ormolu chaise, Circa 1805. This exquisite chaise is raised by six elegant Mahogany legs with Ormolu paw feet supporting the front and central legs with curved Mahogany legs at the back. Above each leg are Ormolu rosettes which flank the pierced Ormolu band of scrolls and palmettes that extend around the entire apron. At the foot end of the chaise is an upholstered 'S' scrolled panel with Ormolu scrolling foliate decorations at the base and an additional Ormolu rosette at the peak. The head end is decorated similarly to the foot with an 'S' scrolled frame, scrolled Ormolu foliate ornaments, and Ormolu rosettes. The arms are beautifully decorated with winged Egyptian busts with their wings extending throughout the entire arm. The top of each arm displays a pierced scrolling berried foliate band atop the finely finished Mahogany arm.
