Astonishing pair of high back lounge chairs designed by Giuseppe Scapinelli, made in his own factiry; Fábrica de Móveis Giesse Brazil 1950. These sculptural high back chairs have a solid teak wooden frame. These elegant chairs have a spoke back which exposes beautifully against the green velvet cushions. The orange toned solid teak frame, matches perfectly with the green upholstery. Also, the back rests have a very nice, widened head rest part, which looks playful and refined. The sculptural back combined with the sensuous, curved armrests and diagonal tapered legs are both sweeping and elegant. These chairs are designed with extremely high attention to detail and these chairs are for sure one of Scapinelli’s most refined designs. The green velvet upholstery is still in good condition, but since the chairs were in different rooms, one chair faded slightly different from the other. None the less a striking pair and in very good condition. Priced and sold in a set of 2. Giuseppi Scapinelli (1891-1982) was a designer, furniture maker and dealer in Sao Paulo. Scapinelli, born in Italy, was a designer who was on top of the zeitgeist. His designs are voluptuous, generous and comfortable. The rounded curves combined with the clean lines of the back hint towards his Italian origins. Unlike some of his famous contemporaries, Scapinelli sank into relative obscurity after passing away in 1982. It took almost 30 years before connoisseurs and collectors got to rediscover him and his fantastic designs: finally, Scapinelli is back where he belongs, among the great masters of Brazilian modern. Luckily Scapinelli left a broad body of work with many different and many beautiful pieces of furniture, only sold in Brazil so very rarely seen in Europe. Like all our upholstered pieces these can also be newly upholstered to your admiration. Ask our experienced upholstery department for an affordable quote for the item you want customized.
