The FK 87 Grasshopper Lounge Chair is more than a piece of furniture, it is a sculptural expression of mid-century modern design at its finest. This one was done with a lovely deep reddish brown leather that is unique and works well in certain interiors. Absolutely new and never sat in! Comfortable and striking!
Combining minimalist aesthetics with luxurious materials and exceptional comfort, it continues to be a prized possession for those who appreciate timeless craftsmanship and authentic design heritage. It features a chrome-plated steel sled base, which supports a canvas sling seat outfitted with removable aniline leather cushions. A matching leather-upholstered neck rest adds to the chair’s comfort and distinctive silhouette. Designed for deep, luxurious lounging, it works best in spacious interiors where its striking form can be fully appreciated.
The FK 87 Grasshopper Lounge Chair, designed by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm between 1965 and 1968, is a landmark of Danish modernism and minimalist design. Named for its elongated, reclined form reminiscent of a grasshopper’s poised stance, the chair reflects the designers’ Bauhaus-influenced commitment to purity of form, honest materials, and functional elegance. Originally produced by Kill International in Germany, the Grasshopper quickly gained recognition as a statement piece that balances sculptural appeal with ergonomic comfort.
In 2006, Danish manufacturer Lange Production revived the FK 87 under exclusive license, working directly with Jørgen Kastholm to maintain the integrity of the original. The brand is committed to faithfully reintroducing the original, employing vintage manufacturing tools and traditional craftsmanship techniques that date back to the chair’s inception. Lange places a strong emphasis on quality and historical accuracy, ensuring that each piece remains true to its Scandinavian design roots. Due to its handcrafted nature and limited production, the FK 87 is positioned as a high-end collector’s object.
