About the Item

Hans Wegner - Model GE-240 Cigar Chair, 1955 A model GE-240 Cigar lounge chair by Hans J. Wegner, made with oak frame and contrasting teak arms. This example has been carefully restored with the sprung cushion upholstered in muted green textured fabric from Sahco. Other upholstery options available by request. In the 1950s Hans Wegner used the platform afforded him by his flourishing commercial success and critical acclaim to help establish the Salesco group of companies with entrepreneur Ejvind Kold Kristensen. Wegner drew distinct collections for each of the 5 factories in the group as each specialised in different furniture categories. Getama started life as a mattress manufacturer in the small town of Gedsted in Denmark. Their collaboration with Wegner allowed them to pivot to modern furniture and would result in several iconic designs including the Cigar chair and a vast expansion through the decade that followed.
