About the Item
Iconic Scandinavian modern lounge chair designed by Torbjørn Afdal for Bruksbo, Norway, early 1960s. The Hunter chair is one of Afdal’s most celebrated designs, known for its sculptural solid teak frame and distinctive suspended leather seat and backrest.
This example features a beautifully shaped teak structure with softly rounded joints and excellent craftsmanship throughout. The original saddle leather seat and back are intact and show a warm, natural patina consistent with age, adding character while remaining structurally sound. The chair offers exceptional comfort and a timeless, understated presence.

Torbjørn Afdal
Torbjørn Afdal was one of the leading designers at Bruksbo Tegnekontor and in Scandinavia. Afdal became more well known when his furniture was bought by US first lady Jacqueline Kennedy and by the Japanese Emperor. In later years, he was granted the commission to design the parliamentary and chairs and tables to the courthouse in Oslo.
