About the Item

The Hunting Chair 2229 by Børge Mogensen - Armchair from Fredericia Furniture The 'Jagtstolen', designed by the popular Børge Mogensen, is synonymous with Danish design and easily takes its place as one of the most iconic pieces of furniture in the history of Danish furniture architecture. Its unique character has achieved an international status, blending into some of the largest and most luxurious homes in the world and helping to put Børge Mogensen, and not least Danish design, on the world map. The chair was first introduced to the public at the Cabinetmakers' Guild Furniture Exhibition in 1950, where it was part of a collection called 'The Hunting Lodge'. The furniture here was the first in which Mogensen experimented with the combination of a sturdy wooden frame and stretched core leather, inspired by traditional Spanish Moorish chairs. He combined this Spanish traditionalism with his own Danish design, influenced by functionalism, which led to a reworking of the proportions of the chair, resulting in the 'Jagtstolen' and 'Den Spanske Stol'. The chair is constructed with a sturdy wooden frame, which with its low height - only 30 centimetres above the ground - helps to ensure the beloved lounge feeling that the chair possesses. The protruding armrests, make it easy to get up from the otherwise deep chair. Unlike the 'Spanish Chair', the 'Hunting Chair' is ideal for uninterrupted relaxation, perfect in a calm and relaxed environment. The seat and backrest are crafted from heavy core leather, buckled up by visible brass buckles, allowing the viewer to observe the entire construction of the piece of furniture, without hiding the extraordinary details. The 'Hunting Chair' is made of the finest materials, from the quartered oak wood parts to the brass buckles and the vegetable-tanned leather, which is still tanned today according to traditional processes in northern Sweden. This focus on the quality of the materials helps to ensure a piece of furniture that can be loved for decades, and over the years acquires a personal patina that adds character and personality to each piece of furniture. literature: Dansk Mobelkunst Gennem 40 Aar: 1947-1956, Jalk, ppg. 302-303 Danish Chairs, Oda, ppg. 128-129 Please contact us for the best shipping options and price.
