About the Item
An elegant, organically shaped lounge chair designed by Jens Houmøller Klemmensen around 1940 and manufactured by Skive Møbelfabrik.
The chair’s sculptural profile features a gently curved backrest and rounded armrests, creating a harmonious and inviting presence.
The seat retains its original coil spring construction. Tapered, angular legs in solid wood – oak at the front, beech at the rear.
Newly upholstered in “Blans” wool fabric in a soft, raw white tone. The textile was designed by Hanne Vedel and woven by Kjellerup Væveri – a renowned Danish wool mill known for its craftsmanship and enduring quality. Fabric-covered buttons accent the backrest in matching wool.
Color Raw white
Featured in Nyt Tidsskrift for Kunstindustri (The New Journal of Industrial Art), 1942.
Jens Houmøller Klemmensen (1906–1991) was a Danish architect and furniture designer trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Although rooted in the functionalist tradition, his work from the 1930s and '40s – including this chair – reflects the softer, more human-centered approach of early Danish modernism.
