Striking a bold balance between futuristic fantasy and sculptural elegance, this pair of “Armillary Chairs”, conceived by Jordan Mozer for Disney Quest in the mid-1990s, captures an arresting moment where design becomes performance. Forged in recycled aluminum-magnesium alloy and hand-polished in Chicago, each chair presents an anthropomorphic silhouette: a spine-like curved back reminiscent of vertebrae, meeting a low, expansive seat that seems to hover above its arched supporting legs—like contemporary monuments to motion.
Expertly restored, the chairs now feature tactile black leather cushions paired with black fabric backs, harmoniously contrasting the sleek luminous frames. The restoration delved beneath layers to reveal the original stitched and welted form intended by the designer, ensuring both visual fidelity and structural integrity. All feet have been replaced with original-style versions, and threaded hardware has been renewed for seamless functionality.
Born from the visionary mind of Jordan Mozer in 1995 for Disney Quest, these “Armillary Chairs” embody a cinematic fusion of organic structure and futuristic audacity. Cast in recycled aluminum-magnesium alloy and hand-polished to a luminous finish, their sculptural frames recall the vertebral grace of a spine—each seat’s curved back composed of contoured, vertebra-like elements that arch with fluid strength and authority. The workmanship achieves a rare sculptural poetry: alive, kinetic, and almost aerodynamic.
In excellent vintage condition, they show only minor signs of use—gentle wear that speaks to their heritage rather than detracting from their impact.
