About the Item
Introducing a very nice and elegant pair of 'Kaïdo' chairs, a rare and iconic design by Kwok Hoi Chan, manufactured by Steiner in France in 1968. The Kaïdo lounge chairs are a testament to Hoï Chan's unique design philosophy, which draws inspiration from a fictional alphabet influenced by Chinese calligraphy. Born in Hong Kong, Kwok Hoi Chan emigrated to Europe, where he established himself as a visionary designer. His collaboration with the Parisian manufacturer Steiner led to the creation of many remarkable pieces, including the distinctive Kaïdo series.
The Kaïdo chairs are celebrated for their sculptural, flowing forms that seamlessly blend art and function. This particular pair exemplifies the elegance and innovation that Hoï Chan brought to his designs. The chairs feature soft, sensual curves that provide both aesthetic appeal and exceptional comfort, particularly in the lower back support, making them perfect for lounging. Recently reupholstered in a beige fabric that perfectly complements the era in which they were designed, these chairs are in excellent condition and have never been used since their refurbishment. The choice of fabric and color not only enhances their mid-century charm but also ensures they will fit beautifully into contemporary interiors.
Given the rarity of the Kaïdo design, this pair of lounge chairs is a true collector's item. Please note that the chairs are priced and sold as a set of two, offering a unique opportunity to own a piece of design history that beautifully captures the innovative spirit of Kwok Hoi Chan.

Kwok Hoi Chan
Kwok Hoi Chan was an emblematic figure of international design who emigrated from Hong Kong to England and France. In France, he paired up with the Parisian manufacturer Steiner. Even though Chan was deeply invested in European and international design, he has always stayed loyal to his Chinese origins. His furniture resembles an imaginary alphabet borrowed from Chinese calligraphy. His trademark is a suspended tubular frame which is combined with an organic shaped seating.
