About the Item

Designed b Otto Parzinger for Maison Jansen, this brushed steel campaign chair pays homage to the ancient world. It is designed like a folding deck chair with a matching stool, both with brass cappings and ornamental finials. The seat and stool retain the original hide upholstery (now a bit worn), the hide arm straps are a replacement. This is surely an ancient form and a fine contemporary stylish iteration. Campaign chairs get their classification from the fact that they were, quite simply, used during military campaigns. The simple and foldable designs made them easy to carry during the march, and have been in use ever since the times of Julius Caesar. The bronze finials and noble pawed feet also emphasise the neoclassical style, stunningly regal in spite of their modest design.
