About the Item
A very good MCM lounge chair designed by Luigi Tiengo for Cimon Ltd., Montreal Canada. The frame is upholstered in what appears to be its original avocado-green fabric, together with its matching loose cushion, mounted to its original tri-corn walnut base.
Dimensions, 37” high (seat height, 16”) x 31” wide x 33” deep.
LUIGI TIENGO (B. 1926 -) is a very successful Italian born artist and furniture designer who was awarded several Canadian national design awards, and whose designs including this lounge chair, were produced in 1963 by the Canadian manufacturer, Cimon Ltd., Montreal Canada.
Remarkably the chair still retains the original Cimon Ltd. customer order slip shown stapled to the base, fully establishing the chairs authenticity.

- Condition:Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. The fabric remains in extremely good overall condition with only minor fading as noted in the image of the seat cushion removed. The original walnut base has been gently refinished.

All six frames featuring swan shaped brass inlaid motifs strikingly silhouetted against ebonized panels within brass moldings, over hand carved lyre-shaped splats replete with brass 'strings'. The frames also featuring brass strung stiles, front seat rails & sabre-leg front supports. All are in exceptionally sound condition due to the classical construction method of using oak as the secondary wood for added strength & durability.
The swan motif was highly favored by cabinetmakers & mount makers during the Directoire Period and was associated with Napoleons consort Josephine, by interpreting her protective nature towards her children like that of a swan towards it's cygnets).
