About the Item

This beautiful and stylish “Model No. 14” lounge chair and footstool set was designed by Fredrik Fogh and Edoardo Bregani and made by the Danish manufacturer Horsnæs. With a wide range of styles, Horsnæs’ collaboration with Fogh and Bregani is a shining example of their reputation. The collaboration created this significant contribution, often sought after by collectors and design enthusiasts, as a testament to their craftsmanship and innovation. The lounge chair is designed for ultimate comfort and relaxation. Its high backrest provides excellent support, while the chair's intricate, organic rattan wicker and bamboo frame showcases the attention to detail typical of Fogh and Bregani's work. The natural curves and open framework add a light and airy feel to any space. The broad, flared base of the chair and ottoman not only ensures stability but also adds to their sculptural appeal. The chair's ergonomic design, with its gently sloping seat and supportive back, invites you to relax and unwind. The ottoman perfectly complements the chair, offering visual and physically suitable support. Crafted by skilled artisans, their rattan items are sought after again for good reason: this tree-climbing vine is surging in demand due to its durability and eco-friendly nature. Retailers and manufacturers became ever more creative with the material in the mid-20th century, crafting exquisite designs in forms and structures that were impossible with wood. The cushion's premium fabric gives a textural, comfortable feeling, and the free-flowing line embraces you at each seating. Smooth forms and delicate lines characterise this model in each detail, turning an everyday object into a piece of functional art through skilled craftsmanship. Condition: In vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. Varnish on the bamboo frame worn away in several spots. The chair and footstool are upholstered in a premium fabric. Each of our items can be re-upholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Please reach out for more information. "Edouard" Lounge Chair by Guillerme et Chambron for Votre Maison, France, 1960s
By Votre Maison, Guillerme et Chambron
Located in Utrecht, NL
The “Edouard” lounge chair is often described as a “caquetoire”, in other (non-French) words a conversation chair. This type of seating was an armchair style which emerged during the European Renaissance in France. As the name suggests, this type of chair was meant for sitting for elongated periods to chat. Generally, these chairs were also highly regarded for their aesthetic value as well, which can also be said about this exceptional chair model. The Edouard is a sculptural model with a blonde oak frame that is characteristic of the French designer duo. The design showcases the wide variety of shapes and forms of the solid oak frame, from the hand-sculpted, organic curving lines to the straighter spindles consisting the backrest. Naturally, a conversation chair needs to be first and foremost functional and comfortable, therefore the back is slightly tilted, and the seat raised, aided by the generous seat and back cushions. The light coloured upholstery beautifully complements the wood and the small loops of the bouclé highlight the smoothness of the frame’s surfaces. The French caquetoire chairs...

Sculptural Lounge Chair by Bas Van Pelt Attr. , The Netherlands, ca 1950s
By Bas Van Pelt
Located in Utrecht, NL
This chair is full of exceptional features and details that make it a unique example of the creative overflow that defined mid-century modernism in Europe. The sculptural design is paired with the organicity of the material and various forms. While the design is no short of exceptional solutions, they are also in service of functionality and comfort. This is a chair of extreme comfort, with multiple joinery and construction techniques. It is a little lower than the standard lounge chair, and that is exactly what provides great ergonomics and aesthetics. The seat and back form an obtuse angle which assures the perfect lounging position. The removable cushions upholstered in brown cow hide add even more comfort, while the fabric’s texture stands out nicely against the smooth wooden surfaces. The flowing structure displays beautifully curved lines and rounded edges that are broken by the straight wooden slats on the back. The perfect balance between the fluid and straight lines is typical of Bas van Pelt’s seating designs. The subtle swirl carvings in the front are playful details that further show off the high level of design and craftsmanship. While the second half of the 20th century saw the takeover of mass production and many - now iconic - futuristic designs, this chair preserves the value and beauty of master craftsmanship and exquisite materials. Condition: In good vintage condition. Wear consistent with age and use. The chair’s cushions have been reupholstered recently in premium cow hide. Each of our items can be re-upholstered by our in-house atelier in a fabric of choice. Please reach out for more information.
