About the Item

Early Bouloum Fiberglass and Fabric Lounge Chair by Olivier Mourgue Sculptural, surreal, and irresistibly lounge-worthy—this iconic Bouloum chair by Olivier Mourgue is as much a conversation piece as it is a seat. Designed in 1969, its playful anthropomorphic form is crafted from molded fiberglass and wrapped in cozy fabric upholstery, inviting you to relax in style. A favorite of mid-century collectors and design dreamers alike, it’s equal parts pop art and functional sculpture. With its anthropomorphic form, the Bouloum was named after a childhood friend of its designer, Olivier Mourgue, who took the charismatic seat with him when he travelled... even going so far as photographing it in various situations and writing anecdotes. As comfortable as it is provocative, one simply must experience the Bouloum to fully understand it. But be warned... once experienced, you will simply have to have one of your own.... it is that comfortable. Playful and practical, the Bouloum is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Measurements: 25" H x 24.5" W x 54" D.
