About the Item
Sitwell 2-seater sofa designed by Hans Bellman for Strässle Söhne
Co, ca. 1955.
This seatee with it‘s elegant organic shape is designed by Hans Bellman for Strässle Söhne
Co in the early 1950s. Bellmann was one of the first designers in Europe experimenting with fiberglass molds.
This then new technique would allow him to construct free, organic shapes and further the construction of the thin and elegant outer profile, bending seamlessly to form the shape of the arm rests.
In difference to the intention of other architects of the period, most prominent Charles and Ray Eames, Bellmann saw it as the technique to realize his formal and esthetic approach towards furniture design, rather than the opportunity of mass production: His aim was elegance, incorporated throughout the entire design. The form of the fiberglass shell with it‘s delicately shaped arm rests , the supporting base that delicately follows the curved form of the seat creating a mold to carry the shell.
The seat is upholstered in a high quality natural-wool fabric, with black laquered steel base. The chair is in good vintage condition with few signs of use.
You’ll be able to find the lounge chair of this series as well in our store front page as well.

This sofa is spectacular! Designed by H.W. Klein for Bramin Mobler in the late 1950's, this sculptural sofa is just as comfortable as it is beautiful. With long, clean lines and arched wingback sides, the body is reminiscent of an Arne Jacobsen egg chair.
The back of the sofa showcases the solid teak frame that perfectly cradles the body of the sofa. The teak frame is further accentuated with its rich color and patina that really pops off the white lower-pile fine Belgian boucle...
