Pair of club chairs, velvet, beech, France, 1940s
Comfortable and luxurious pair of Art Deco lounge chairs from 1940s France. Their structure is defined by a compact, grounded volume supported by short wooden block feet. The bulky elements are softened by a continuous curvature, particularly evident in the wide, scroll-like armrests that extend outward in a generous horizontal gesture. These armrests, in conjunction with the thick seat cushion and rounded backrest provide unparalleled comfort. The upholstery in pale mint-green velvet introduces freshness and serves as a tactile counterpoint to the solidity of the frame. The use of piping along the seams further delineates the volume, creating linear accents that trace the construction without disrupting its unity.
Please note that we advise reupholstery before use. This item contains threadbare upholstery with wear marks and small stains. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come.
