About the Item

This pair of armchairs is characterised by a low, grounded stance and a compact, well-balanced profile. The proportions favour comfort without excess, with generous upholstered volumes contained within a clearly defined wooden structure. The continuous curve of the armrests establishes a calm horizontal rhythm, visually anchoring the chairs while guiding the eye across their form. Their presence is discreet yet assured, conceived to occupy space with ease rather than emphasis. The frames are executed in ash, visible in the softly rounded armrests and legs, whose warm tone contrasts gently with the light fabric upholstery. The wood elements are shaped with fluid continuity, suggesting careful bending and finishing, and terminate in subtly splayed rear legs that lend stability and a slight sense of movement. The upholstery is tailored with restraint, following the contours of the seat and backrest without pronounced seams or ornament, allowing material and form to remain the primary focus. The dialogue between the smooth wooden structure and the soft textile surfaces reflects a refined approach to mid-century craftsmanship. Produced by an Italian manufacturer in the 1950s, the armchairs belong to a period marked by renewed attention to domestic comfort and formal clarity. The design reflects the post-war Italian tendency to reconcile traditional cabinetmaking skills with modern living requirements, favouring approachable forms and high-quality materials. While not attributed to a specific designer, the chairs are consistent with the broader language of Italian mid-century seating, where elegance was achieved through proportion and material balance rather than stylistic display. The armchairs are in very good condition. They have been professionally restored, newly upholstered, and refinished by our internal atelier. The wooden surfaces retain a consistent finish, and the upholstery is fresh and structurally sound. Minor traces consistent with age may remain, in keeping with the character of the pieces.
