About the Item
Rare and beautifully crafted pair of mahogany armchairs designed by Jens Møller-Jensen (1869–1948), retaining their original calico underlayer beneath the upholstery. These chairs offer an exceptional degree of authenticity, showing the quality and character of early 20th-century Danish craftsmanship.
These armchairs come directly from the family of Jens Møller-Jensen, where they have remained since their creation. According to the family, they were the designer’s personal favorite chairs, a fact that adds a unique layer of historical and emotional significance to the pieces.
Jens Møller-Jensen was active during a pivotal period in Danish design, bridging the late 19th-century tradition of classical craftsmanship with the gradual shift toward the simpler, more functional forms that would define the early modern movement. His work reflects a deep understanding of proportion and material, hallmarks of Denmark’s strong furniture-making tradition.
This pair, with its unrestored, original upholstery, offers collectors and design historians a rare opportunity to acquire furniture with unbroken provenance and direct ties to the maker himself.
Provenance: By descent in the family of Jens Møller-Jensen to the present day.
