About the Item

Pair of armchairs, fabric, beech, Italy, 1940s The chairs shown here, Italian from the 1940s, present a distinctly rounded silhouette with a continuous curve that runs from the low backrest into the arms without interruption. The seat itself is wide and circular, echoing the arc of the frame. This circularity is important: it speaks to a mid-century exploration of comfort through organic form rather than rigid rectilinearity. The chairs sit on four short, tapered wooden legs, slightly angled outwards. The back, when viewed in profile, has a subtle rise, but never breaks its curve. It creates a continuous surface for the patterned upholstery to unfold across, while also cradling the sitter in a single gesture. These mid-century pieces are enveloped in a charming damask fabric with a repeating floral-and-scroll motif executed in a blue color. Kindly note that the fabric is in good, used condition with wear marks and stains. Reupholstery can be done before shipping by our experienced craftspeople in our own in-house restoration atelier. With high attention for the original, they make sure every piece retains its value and is ready for the many years to come. We kindly ask you to contact our design experts for further information about the endless possibilities our restoration and upholstery atelier has to offer. Of course, a locally organized reupholstery is possible as well.
