About the Item

A rare pair of " Edouard " oak lounge chairs by Guillerme et Chambron, Votre Maison. France 1950's Wood has been refinished and the chairs have been entirely re upholstered in " Casamance" textured fabric. The seats have kept an 2 oak tassels a decorative feature sometimes seen on this model ( see photo detail) "Votre Maison" has been founded in 1949 by Robert Guillerme and Jacques Chambron with the collaboration of Émile Dariosecq a talented cabinet maker who has been in charge of manufacturing Guillerme and Chambron's designs and creations European furniture in the post-war aka " Reconstruction" period largely emphasized function as well as form and did without any superfluous ornamentation. Guillerme and Chambron wanted people to actually use their furniture and not just look at it. This design philosophy was a pillar of their company " Votre Maison" whose name translates to "your home" in French. "Edouard" lounge chaise is of the most famous successful designs, still less produced than the famous "Repos" model. The “Edouard” lounge chair is often described as a “caquetoire”, or a conversation chair. This type of seating was an armchair style which emerged during the European Renaissance in France. As the name suggests, this type of chair was meant for sitting for elongated periods to chat. Generally, these chairs were also highly regarded for their aesthetic value as well, which can also be said about these exceptional chair models. The “Edouard” is a sculptural model with a blonde oak frame that is characteristic of the French designer duo. The design showcases the wide variety of shapes and forms of the solid oak frames, from the curving lines to the straighter spindles comprising the backrests.
