About the Item

Pair of Artist conceived, Industrial design armchairs or club chairs re-purposed from Gulf Oil barrels and reflecting a modern 1960s counter-cultural aesthetic emphasizing the use of every day materials in the art making process. Andy Warhol appropriated everyday advertising symbols and logos in his early works and his direct influence can be seen in these creations. Furthermore, "Arte Povera" (Italian for Poor Art) had much in common; the use of everyday or re-purposed materials was a common feature. Additional References: Modern and Contemporary Art.
