About the Item

Extremely Rare Pair of Pierre Jeanneret “Fireside Chairs” model PJ-SI-36-A, created in the 1950s for the city of Chandigarh in India, the utopian city designed together with his cousin Le Corbusier. These incredible chairs are made of solid teak “compass”-type double side leg assembly, with the legs connected by a crosspiece for additional support. The seat and backrest come in a beautiful Ecru colored cowhide, which has been professionally restored. The comfortable design will not only be the conversation piece in your interior, but also your new favorite seat. Pierre Jeanneret (1896-1967) is renowned as a pivotal figure in modernism. His collaborations with his cousin Le Corbusier are especially significant, particularly their codification of modernist architectural principles in Five Points Towards a New Architecture (1926). Towards the end of their careers the pair also designed a utopian modernist city in India – Chandigarh, and Jeanneret designed some of his most celebrated furniture designs for the administrative buildings in the city.
