About the Item

This is a beautiful pair of Dutch design lounge chairs designed by Rob Parry, manufactured by Gelderland in the Netherlands, circa 1960. They have a beautiful grey metal base hand tropical hardwooden armrests. Upholstered in high quality beige leather, complimenting the colors and materials beautifully, giving them a very modern appearance. Their very recognizable shape and quality crafting makes this set a wonderful addition to any decor. A great find for any design enthusiast. The sizes of the chairs are the same, except the height. The lady chair is 77 cm in height and the highback 98 cm. In good vintage condition, with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina. Rob Parry (born in The Hague, Netherlands, 1925) studied at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague where his most important teachers were Cor Alons, Paul Schuitema and Gerrit Rietveld, whom Parry worked for. It was Rietveld’s firm that laid the foundation for Parry’s interest in exhibition design. In 1950, Rob Parry started his own firm. Emile Truijen was his design partner from 1954 to 1958. Together they developed a myriad of designs, including one of the icons of Dutch design: the double post box. Up until 1995, he designed interiors, furniture, stands, exhibitions, jewelry, lettering and toys. In his designs, Rob Parry experimented with new materials and techniques. Designs by Rob Parry are included in the collections of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, Boijmans Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, and the Museum for Communication in The Hague and the Stedelijk Museum in’s Hertogenbosch.
