About the Item

This extraordinary armchair, an amazing example from the vibrant 1980s Italian design scene, embodies the spirit of postmodern innovation lead by figures like Ettore Sottsass, Mario Botta, and Marco Zanini. Unattributed yet undeniably meticulous in its craftsmanship, the chair is a testament to the era’s daring creativity. Constructed with precision, its structure showcases meticulously folded and welded components that exude both artistry and technical expertise. Despite its visually delicate appearance, this armchair is surprisingly robust, offering both stability and durability. It challenges expectations, a hallmark of postmodern design, where visual intrigue often masks surprising functionality. The hard lines especially visible from the side, make the chair an interplay of its shape. Its bold geometry and sculptural presence make it an intriguing statement piece that seamlessly complements contemporary interiors. Preserved in very good original condition, it retains its authentic charm, adding character and depth to any space it inhabits. Postmodernism, a movement that emerged in the late 20th century, sought to break away from the rigid confines of modernist principles. Rejecting the austerity of minimalism, it embraced bold forms, playful colors, and eclectic influences. Designers like Sottsass and his peers infused their work with wit and emotion, creating pieces that were as much art as they were functional objects. Rooted in questioning tradition and celebrating diversity, postmodernism continues to inspire and provoke, inviting us to see design as a dialogue between past, present, and future.

Super rare two tone version of the SE20 chair designed by Martin Visser and manufactured by 't Spectrum, Netherlands in 1988. The chair is made from yellow and off-white painted plywood. This unique chair has a ultimate modernist and contemporary appearance. This design blends various shapes and design techniques seamlessly into one iconic piece. The backrest has a slight angle for comfort and a nicely curved seat. The front legs are ingeniously made in a triangle shape for stability and are placed in the opposite angle to the back legs. Its quite a heavy and solid chair and is partly hollow which is found in the seat. Its held together by chrome-plated bolts which are made visible and give that little extra to the design.
