Pair of lounge chairs, rush, beech, France, 1940s
Rustic-inspired French armchairs from the 1940s. The structure is composed of rectilinear wooden components, slightly tapered and angled to produce a wide, grounded stance. The rear legs extend upward into the backrest frame, and the long, gently curved wooden armrests project outward and slightly upward, providing a dynamic geometry of lines. The woven rush surfaces contribute to their bucolic look and simultaneously endow the piece with an organic quality. The corners are meticulously wrapped in leather.
