About the Item

The Scacciapensieri armchair feels like it was designed to let you exhale. A single, fluid arc in bentwood holds a suspended fabric seat that wraps gently around the body. Rather than sitting on a rigid structure, you settle into a soft sling that gives slightly as you move—a relaxed kind of comfort that feels both intuitive and surprisingly refined. The shape is clean and quiet, and the curved arms lend a sense of balance that makes the chair as calm to look at as it is to use. The ash frames have a warm tone and a subtle grain, with the textile seat forming a strong visual counterpoint. The two red examples have an inviting presence, while the black version introduces a more minimalist tone. All three are in excellent overall condition, with solid structures and fabric surfaces showing only natural, age-appropriate signs of use. Offered individually. Jonathan De Pas, Donato D’Urbino and Paolo Lomazzi were among the most distinctive voices of Italian post-war design. Working together from Milan starting in 1966, they explored how furniture could adapt to the body, travel through space, and change mood. Their pieces often challenged convention: inflatable seating, collapsible structures, and furniture that embraced lightness rather than formality. Their Sciangai coat rack earned the Compasso d’Oro in 1979 and remains an icon of Italian design. Like many of their creations, the Scacciapensieri armchair carries that same spirit—relaxed, approachable, and ready to be lived with, not simply admired. Dimensions: Width 61 cm × Depth 84 cm × Height 82 cm - Seat height 37 cm ≈ 24" W × 33" D × 32.3" H - Seat height 14.6"
