About the Item
Spectacular sculptural lounge chair fully hand-made in curved rattan, hand-woven wicker, and black enameled metal. This incredibly rare piece was designed by Janine Abraham and Dirk Jan Rol and produced in France during the late 1960s.
In exceptional condition, this charming sculptural rattan chair is considered the “Nirvana” of French Riviera organic design.
The stylish lounge chair is fully hand-crafted in stunning green lacquered curved rattan and hand-woven wicker. Its perfect proportions are truly mind-blowing. The chair rests on four curved feet in black enameled metal. The geometric frame and legs reflect Rol’s background in architecture, adding modernity to the organic materials of the seat.
The chair is completed with a round cushion in elegant white bouclé fabric. The spectacular build quality and natural materials make this piece light yet extremely sturdy.
A one-of-a-kind French Riviera lounge chair, perfect to elevate an organic modern interior or a French Riviera style project.

French-born designer Janine Abraham studied at the École Camondo in Paris, graduating in 1952. She met Dutch-born designer Dirk Jan Rol at the studio of Jacques Dumond in 1955. The following year, in 1956, the pair showed their first collaborative work at the Salon des Artistes Decorateurs.
Abraham and Rol launched their own agency in 1957, creating modernist furniture characterized by clean, elegant lines—notably the rattan and enameled metal Lemon and Corolle chairs (both 1957), the sleek Sapelli wood and lacquered metal Plywood Chair (1960), and the steel and black vinyl Sofa Bed (1962). While little else is known about the duo, Rol went on to focus on architecture, creating sculptural structures that combined and celebrated nature and interiors.
