This one-of-a-kind sculptural armchair, titled “The Fastest Vegan Leather Chair Ever,” was showcased at Design Miami ’23. Created by acclaimed Barcelona-based designer Jordi Ribaudí, this collectible design piece combines artistry, sustainability, and symbolism.
The armchair—resembling a modern throne—features a wooden structure and seating upholstered in vegan leather, meticulously crafted from four layers of linen and one layer of Belgian cotton. Its bold leopard-inspired pattern is painted using ecological and sustainable paints.
As a reflection on the contrasts between form and appearance, object and symbol, Ribaudí explores the tension between what we aspire to appear and what we truly are. Known for working with vegetable-tanned animal leather, the designer took on Design Miami’s challenge to create a vegan alternative. The result is a unique material derived from linen, embodying a balance between sustainability, authenticity, and artistic expression.
