About the Item

Introducing a truly extraordinary cane-armed lounge chair set designed by the influential Kipp Stewart for Drexel's lauded Declaration Line. Crafted in the late 1950s this lounge chair set features incredible black walnut woodgrains and audacious curves and shaping throughout. The newly redone upholstery, re-upholstered in a kind-to-the-touch beige bouclé adds subtle luxury and perfectly offsets the variegated woodgrains of the graceful frames. Featuring cane-backed arm rests and backrests in stunning original condition this set is ideal for collectors searching for an authentic set of early Kipp Stewart chairs that are ready for a literal lifetime more of use. Kipp Stewart, who recently passed in 2022, is an American Icon who's work as a furniture designer, artist and architect has been widely respected and venerated throughout the US and abroad. After working with the renowned industrial designers Charles and Bernice “Ray” Eames, Stewart went on to design furniture of a mid-century modern aesthetic for Drexel Heritage out of North Carolina, Directional Furniture through the Modernage Company in New York, and Summit Furniture of Monterey. The Drexel Furniture Co. began over a hundred years ago in Hickory, North Carolina with a single product and a simple vision. The product was a made-to-order dining chair. In the decades since, their product range has evolved into an assortment of timeless designs, drawn from significant periods and places, and from the talents of some of the world's most respected designers such as the aforementioned Kipp Stewart. Drexel is still producing pieces to this day with much reverence given to their craftsmanship and use of natural materials. Both incredibly rare and comfortable, stylish and versatile this truly one-of-a-kind lounge chair set is unlike any we've ever come across. Perfect for collectors and designers alike searching for an authentically rare Kipp Stewart chair set that is as functional as it is visually captivating this set can blend seamlessly against a multitude of design backdrops from Mid-Century Modern to Contemporary to Boho-Chic and everything in between. With so few of these chairs available for sale, this ultra-rare set won't last long. Make them yours today before they're gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 23.5 in / 59.69 cm Depth: 26 in / 66.04 cm Height: 31.25 in / 79.38 cm Seat Height: 17 in / 43.18 cm Arm Height: 23.5 in / 59.69 cm This gorgeous set of lounge chairs has recently undergone a partial restoration process featuring new upholstery. Save for a few minor repairs (which can be seen in the detail photos provided) the solid black walnut frames are in original condition and show only minor nicks and light scratches but showing no stains, gouges or other wear whatsoever and the variegated woodgrains are absolutely stunning in natural light. The seats, recovered in a kind-to-the-touch beige bouclé, feature new medium density foam for maximum comfort and support. The caning is in remarkably excellent shape showing only one small repair as well as a small break (both of which can be seen in the detail photos provided), but showing no fraying or stains whatsoever. This extraordinary set of artfully crafted lounge chairs are incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more of use. Please view all photos and natural light video provided for details on this set's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
