About the Item
Set of three 1960ies „Panchetto“ reclining lounge chairs, designed by Italian sculptor Rita Valla in 1961
Manufactured by IPE Bologna.
With it’s weight and dimensions the „Panchetto“ chair perfectly easily adapts to various interior and social situations.
It’s not only very easy to move around and create a lounge seating group. With just one move the backrest can be pulled out and downward to form a large poof to rest your feet. And with three „Panchettos“ placed in a row you may even easily transform it into a full size daybed or sofa.
Albeit it’s great functionality and minimalist appearance Rito Valla did very well designing this beautiful seating furniture. With its slight angle in the two-part corresponding so beautifully with the proportions of the whole he invented a rather unique piece of furniture. All parts correspond perfectly to form the panchetto.
Italian sculptor Rito Valla designed few pieces of furniture for IPE Bologna in the early 1960ies. The company was early on experimenting with the then new materials that transformed the shape of furniture in this fruitfull period. In his sculprures Rito Valla was a part of the expressionist Novocento movement, that strongly intended to move forward with traditional sculptural practices and ideals. In his furniture, probably, he was more inventive - which the panchetto chair as one of the results.
The chairs had been reupholstered a few years ago in a grey wool fabric. The chairs show do show signs of use and wear and especially the metal bases should be restored.
Reupholstery in a fabric of your choice on request is possible, reupholstery costs are not included in this price !
