About the Item
This is a grand old ocean liner from the 1920s, a stick reed rattan lounge chair and ottoman with their original forrest green oilcloth upholstered cushions.
Extraordinary geometric design, particularly the tombstone shaped back cushion, straddling the zeitgeist between skyscraper and streamlined modern.
Certainly could be the work of Paul Frankl, Donald Deskey or Gilbert Rohde.
These were remarkably well preserved when we found them in the attic of a grand old Boston house so we are fortunate to be able to present them in 95% original condition.
We did minimal restoration, replacing just a few missing round reed sticks along the rear skirt of the chair, rewrapping some binder cane, mending and reglazing the oilcloth cushions while preserving the raw cotton fill.
We opted not to touch up any of the green and red paint.
Chair and ottoman are in museum worthy original condition.
Ottoman dimensions: 13" H x 19" W x 19" D.
