About the Item

A strikingly attractive tan leather and aluminium Mid Century Hungarian armchair in lovely vintage condition. Designed by Rudolf Szedleczky and made in the early 1970s, this extremely comfortable lounge chair will enhance any interior with its super quality, lovely colouring and sleek, Bauhaus-influenced aesthetic. Impressively sized and wonderfully eye-catching, Szedleczky’s stunningly shapely, minimalist design features beautiful curves and angles and has a semi-reclined seating position with proudly curving arms and splayed legs. The chair shows just how Szedleczky was influenced by the boldness, simplicity and minimalism of the Bauhaus design movement several decades earlier. The Art Deco influenced arms and broad, generously sized back and seat are upholstered in the original thick tan-coloured hide leather with lovely stitched detailing and beautiful signs of ageing. The leather works wonderfully against the sleek and robust-but-lightweight aluminium frame and the semi-reclined seating position makes this beauty an ideal and super-comfy accent or reading chair. All in all this is a super lounge chair, which won’t fail to impress and will add genuine Mid Century designer quality and styling to any setting. CONDITION This is in very good vintage condition. Structurally sound and built to last, it has minor to-be-expected signs of age, including some blemishes to the frame and some fading and marks to the leather, which if anything only enhance its vintage appeal as a genuine 1970s Szedleczky original. The under-seat black hessian has torn as the leather has stretched with the seat, which is common among these 1970s originals and was a design oversight, as hessian doesn’t stretch but leather does. But it makes no difference to the structure and has been stuck to the seat to prevent it flapping, and you can see the area where the original maker’s mark sticker would have been. Overall this is a really striking, extremely comfortable and very impressive rare lounge chair in lovely vintage condition and if well looked after it should remain so for another 50+ years – please see the photos. DIMENSIONS Height – 96cm, Width – 66cm, Depth – 86cm, Seat Height – 43cm, Arm Height – 61cm, Est Weight – 12-15kg.
