About the Item

This lounge chair, a rare example of vintage Danish design, embodies the timeless elegance and functional comfort that define the Mid-Century Modern era. Crafted in Denmark, its form bears a striking resemblance to iconic designs such as Philip Arctander’s renowned “Clam” chair (Muslingestolen) and the celebrated “Pragh” chair by Madsen and Schubell. The organic, sculptural silhouette with its distinctive club-shaped legs and elegantly rounded, button-tufted backrest creates an inviting and visually captivating presence. The visible frame is constructed from solid beech wood, which has been stained to a dark, rich hue and finished with a subtle varnish, highlighting the beautiful grain and robust craftsmanship. This open structure, a hallmark of superior Scandinavian cabinetry, ensures both a lightweight appearance and enduring stability. Currently upholstered in its original light brown fabric, the piece is in sound working order with a solid, firm frame, free of any odors or holes. The current upholstery shows minor wear consistent with its significant age and use, which only adds to its authentic vintage character. We are pleased to offer highly affordable, re-upholstery services. This chair presents an exceptional opportunity to be restored in a luxurious material, such as a light color bouclé or a luxury velvet, transforming it into a truly stunning and bespoke statement piece that will be the centerpiece of any sophisticated interior. Despite its small appearance, the comfort of this chair is at its highest.
