Woodworker David Warner has come up through the ranks of furniture design, first earning a master's degree in the field, later apprenticing himself to master designer Wendell Castle. Warner recently set himself the task of "constructing an object that could be manufactured economically and would take most of its beauty from the kind of wood used." He chose as his raw material two woods that thrive in tropical climates -- rosewood and zebrawood -- and from them fashioned boxes, using simple, uncluttered lines and a minimum of detail, and joining the corners with miter splines, an indication of quality craftsmanship
