About the Item

A rare and visionary large, French, modernist, architectural sofa or love seat attributed to the French contemporary artist and sculptor, Gerard Coquelin, circa 1990. The sofa and chairs have a totally transparent skeletal structure, much like a building in the process of construction, and are composed of thin round bars of wrought iron painted a matte black. There is an internal, knotted nylon rope seating structure that meshes with the iron and provides amazingly comfortable seating. These pieces are unique works of functional sculpture and can be used indoors and outdoors. Sofa is shown; a pair of chairs is also available. References: Tom Dixon, Ron Arad.
