About the Item

Handsome 19th century English Victorian period captains chair or smokers' bow chair crafted from mahogany. The chair features a round horseshoe shaped seat crest with a deep contoured saddle seat. The generous seat has a swivel mechanism and a central pierced splat. The seat is supported by undulating cabriole-style legs ending with later added casters. The hardwood has a desirable aged patina on the finish commensurate age and use. The ergonomic design is very comfortable with 29 inch high arms. From an estate in San Francisco, California.
