About the Item

Royal House Antiques Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this stunning, fully restored Antique Victorian Irish Chesterfield captains chair with bobbin turned frame purchased from The Hibernian Club No 9 Stephens Green Dublin Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price. This chair is really quite exceptional, it dates to the early Victorian era circa 1840-1860, its made with a solid hand carved mahogany frame and tufted with cattle hide leather throughout The chair has a sticker to the base which reads THE HIBERNIAN CLUB NO 9 STEPHENS GREEN DUBLIN 2 which is where I purchased the chair from. It needed full restoration, the seat base slid in and out and had been lost, the rest of the leather had faded right back. My upholsterer has made a new base which has been constructed using traditional Victorian upholstery methods, we used premium Italian cattle hide leather which has upholstered plain, the whole piece the hand dyed six times, antiqued, sealed waxed down and polished, it is in sublime condition throughout The Stephen's Green Hibernian Club Your Home in the City Since 1840 The Stephen's Green Hibernian Club is Ireland's premier Private Members' Club, situated in the heart of Dublin's city centre in a beautiful, 18th-century building on Stephen's Green. The Club evolved out of the earlier Union Club closely associated with 19th-century political reformer Daniel O’Connell. It first opened its doors in 1840 as the Stephen's Green Club. In 2004, it merged with the Hibernian Services Club in No. 8 – resulting in its current name, and an even more expansive membership base. Dimensions: Height:- 65cm Width:- 68cm Depth:- 71cm Seat height:- 41cm Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. Any questions please feel free to ask before you bid. Condition Please view the very detailed pictures as they form part of the description around condition Please note vintage period and original items such as leather seating will always have natural patina in the form of cracking creasing and wear, we recommend regular waxing to ensure no moisture is lost, also hand dyed leather is not recommended to sit in direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time as it will dry out and fade.
