Rare set of 4 office chairs model "Support," designed by Frederick Scott in 1976 and produced under license by ICF Milan starting in the late 1970s. These chairs represent a milestone in ergonomic design of the second half of the twentieth century, with a white painted metal frame, five-spoke swivel base with fixed feet, and seat upholstered in brown fabric.
Designed for ergonomics, functionality and durability, the chairs feature an understated, modern design with a tilting backrest and height-adjustable seat. The Italian versions produced by ICF are distinguished by their build quality and aesthetic adaptation to the professional European contexts of the time.
An iconic set, ideal for executive environments, representative offices or vintage architectural firms.
Frederick Scott (1942-2001) was a British designer best known for creating the Supporto chair, one of the first office chairs adopts advanced ergonomic principles. He has been working with Hille International since the early 1970s. Support became an icon of contemporary seating, professionally recognized and internationally awarded. The International Federation of Architects called it one of the most influential chairs in the history of modern office furniture.
In Italy, ICF Milano acquired the production license, helping to spread the model in textile versions and painted structures dedicated to the European market.
Founded in the 1950s in Milan, ICF S.p.A. (Industria Componenti per l'Arredamento) was one of the pioneering companies in the design and production of office furniture in Italy. Since its inception, ICF has combined the rigor of industrial production with the elegance and functionality typical of Italian design.
In the 1960s and 1970s, ICF experienced rapid growth due to its ability to interpret cultural and organizational change in workplaces. Unlike many competitors, the company has chosen a modular and functional approach, investing in technical as well as stylistic design. This is evidenced by Interparete wall units, Brick System partition systems, and a wide range of operational seating, including precisely the Supporto model, made under license from the UK.
In the same years, ICF collaborated with leading Italian and foreign designers and produced under license some of the most iconic chairs of modernism, such as the Aluminium Chairs by Charles
Ray Eames, for which it held the exclusive license for Italy before it passed to Vitra.
Today ICF is still active in the professional furniture market, based in Vignate (MI), maintaining an identity that combines manufacturing tradition, innovation and quality construction. Its historic products, particularly its vintage office chairs, are now highly sought after in the modern antiques and collectible design market.
