Pair of Rare Teak Klismos Stools or Ottomans by Ashley Hicks Jantar Mantar 1999
From UK-based Ashley Hicks premier collection of furniture, the Jantar Mantar Klismos ottomans or stools were among the first of his designs to be produced. Built by local craftsmen in Delhi, India, this pair is from the edition of around 30 (per Ashley Hicks.) Artisan-crafted with a Burmese Teak frame and a woven leather seat, Hicks took inspiration for the design from the first edition of Gislea Richter's book Ancient Furniture which had a measured drawing of the Klismos from the Stela of Hegeso in Athens.
Leather stamped Jantar Mantar. Wear from age and use. Repair to joinery of one with glue (see photos) Wear to wood and leather from age and use (see photos.)
