About the Item
This pouf is an icon of mid-century Italian design: it's the pouf (or ottoman) designed by Franco Albini in 1951 for Vittorio Bonacina, often associated with the famous "Margherita" armchair (which won the gold medal at the 9th Milan Triennale).
It's entirely handcrafted from curved and woven rattan (or wicker), with a spherical, open structure composed of arches of bent and tied reeds, creating a light, airy, and sculptural effect, almost like a cage or a "lobster pot" (hence the English nickname "Lobster Pot"). The circular base, with no visible legs, and the organic shape recalls traditional Italian craftsmanship combined with Albini's signature modern rationalism.
The removable top cushion, here in dark green velvet, elegantly contrasts with the warm natural tone of the rattan. This pouf is versatile: it can serve as a footrest, an additional seat, a low table, or a bohemian-chic decorative element.
