About the Item

Available today, these Mid-Century Modern rocking chair in Bentwood by Moveis Cimo in Brazil during the fifties decade is magnificent! The curved shapes that provided a differential in style were only possible because Cimo imported the steam wood lamination technology from Hamburg, Germany (First in Brazil to do this). The rocking chair has been refinished and besides the marks of the age (mostly in the legs) the piece is in excellent condition. Remnants of the manufactured seal can be found under the seat. A piece like this is a statement by itself but will look awesome in a mid-century, boho chic or even Modern Farmhouse environment Móveis Cimo was created by Jorge Zipperer and Willy Jung, in 1913, Santa Catarina, Brazil. From the 1930s to the 1970s Cimo was the largest furniture factory in Latin America. Cimo's history starts in 1921 as a wood box factory called A.Ehrl e Cia. but became Móveis Cimo S.A shortky after. Cimo was committed to industrialization, carrying out the standardization of products, and facing serial production challenges. In the search for more accessible prices for the wider population, the company did not abandon the possibility of developing quality products by rationalizing production, making better use of materials, and using advanced technologies for the time. Móveis Cimo became the largest furniture producer in Latin America, playing a fundamental role in developing its region and the advancement of manufacturing series furniture in the country, being a Pioneer in several sectors and an essential chapter in the history of Brazilian furniture making. Size: H42.1, 27.6, D47.2 (in) H107, W70, D120 (cm).
