About the Item

This elegant Mid-Century Modern rocking chair, designed by Yngve Ekström for Swedese in the 1960s, exemplifies Scandinavian design with its solid teak frame and newly custom upholstered Cloud Light Gray nubby Bouclé fabric. The rich, honey-toned teak highlights the chair’s organic curves and sturdy construction, while the plush upholstery, inspired by Frank Reenskaug’s pillow design for the Bramin Model 182 rocking chair, includes a back pillow for added comfort and style. Perfectly restored, this piece blends timeless craftsmanship with a soft, contemporary aesthetic, making it an ideal accent for a living room, nursery, or collector’s curated space. Yngve Ekström (1913–1988) was a renowned Swedish designer and architect, celebrated for his contributions to Mid-Century Modern furniture. Based in Sweden, he collaborated with Swedese to create iconic pieces, including the celebrated rocking chair, known for its ergonomic design and use of natural materials like teak. Ekström’s work, characterized by simplicity and functionality, earned him international recognition and remains a favorite among collectors and design enthusiasts. Swedese, a Swedish furniture company founded in 1945 and based in Vaggeryd, Sweden, is a cornerstone of Scandinavian design. Known for partnering with designers like Yngve Ekström, Swedese gained fame in the 1950s and 1960s for its use of solid woods such as teak and high-quality upholstery. Renowned for its commitment to craftsmanship and sustainable design, Swedese’s pieces continue to be prized by collectors and interior designers for their enduring elegance and historical significance. ---Dimensions--- Width: 24.5 in / 62.23 cm Depth: 26.5 in / 67.31 cm Height: 41.5 in / 105.41 cm Seat Height: 15 in / 38.1 cm Arm Height: 23.75 in / 60.33 cm This elegantly-designed and crafted rocker has recently undergone a partial restoration. The solid Burmese teak frame shows only minor nicks and light scratches (the worst of which can be seen in the detail photos provided) but shows no stains, gouges or cracks whatsoever and the teak woodgrains are absolutely stunning in natural light. The upholstery, redone in a neutral gray cotton bouclé, is in showroom, never-sat-in condition. The seat and back cushion have been replaced with new medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. The chair remains perfectly balanced and rocks with ease and without issue. This rocker is perfectly balanced, incredibly comfortable and ready for a literal lifetime more of use thanks to it's recent restoration process. Please view all photos and natural light video provided for details on this rocker's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
