A very rare design by Giorgio Montani for Souplina. This sofa, designed in the 1970s, is built from a series of modular blocks that can be arranged into different shapes. Here it is shown as a large L-shaped composition, creating an enclosed seating area that feels both social and intimate. The shape is strong and geometric, but softened by the thick upholstery. Each block has a stainless-steel base that looks clean, cool, and a little industrial. On top of that sits the newly reupholstered suede in a plum purple tone, with deep tufting that makes the surface appear almost quilted. This contrast between hard steel and soft suede gives the sofa its character; firm and architectural below, comfortable and inviting above.
The corners are especially important. Instead of being sharp and rigid, they are rounded by the upholstery, turning the right angle into a place where you can sit or lean casually. The repetition of identical units makes the sofa look orderly, almost like a grid, but the softness of the material makes it feel less strict and more generous. Overall, the shape combines a sense of structure with comfort. It feels very much of the 1970s: modular, flexible, and designed for a lifestyle where furniture is not fixed but adaptable to space and use.
