About the Item

Corbi sectional sofa designed by Klaus Uredat for COR, Germany 1969 Five sofa elements with backrest in original brown Corduroy fabric Measurements: Length 350 cm x depth 108 cm x height 62 cm With his design of the Corbi sofa German Designer Klaus Uredat created a sculptural seating landscape with serial character. Placing several modules in a row perfectly contributes to the sculptural character of this piece. Remarkable is the way in that Klaus Uredat here challenges the normative ideas of his time about seating furniture: The cylindrical backrest is free to be placed where it’s individually comfortable. It simply lays on the seat, can be rolled into the preferred position. It’s inviting soft foam adjusts to individual seating preferences. This has the striking consequence that the Corbi Sofa breaks up with the idea of front and rear side, which we’re used to see with a sofa. There literally is no “behind” this sofa and seating in both directions asks/or vis-a-vis is intended. Corbi is casual, highly esthetic and breaks with the rules: It’s a rebell - somewhat close to the Minimal Art objects of the sixties and in this sense very close with Avantgarde concepts about art and design of it‘s time. Certainly the most important design we know invented by Klaus Uredat, in a time where habits and behavior are challenged in numerous ways. A sculpture a sofa. A place to be - to meet and rest. Today the “Corbi” sofa is a sought-after collectors item, especially in complete original condition ! CONDITION: the sofa elements are in used condition asbestos du show various signs of use according to their age and prior use. The Corduroy fabric faded over time. Therefore and due to the pile the fabric it varies in color depending on the direction the fabric’s pile is brushed. It shows several spots, further it does have one small crack of about 2 cm and further one repair on the side. This damage certainly resulted from the way the sofa pieces are grabbed to carry them around. We have attached pictures of this. The upholstery foam is still in very good condition and as soft as it should be. We preferred to leave it in it’s original condition. But we would also be able to have this sofa reupholstered for you on request. This would extend the delivery time by circa 6 - 8 weeks and PLEASE NOTE that costs for reupholstery are not included in this offer. Please feel free to contact us to get a reupholstery quote and time schedule. Please refer to the images in this items discription and please don't hesitate to ask if you like to request further images and/or information.
