About the Item

Verner Panton for Fritz Hansen, modular sofa model 'Pantonova' with side tables, metal, fabric, walnut, Denmark, 1970s This sectional sofa, composed of four elements and two side tables, was designed by Danish visionary Verner Panton. Originally created for the iconic Varna restaurant in Århus, Denmark, the design reflects Panton’s innovative approach to modular seating. Each element is crafted from parallel metal wires with open sides, giving the piece an airy transparency. The bent and curved metal frames form dynamic sitting elements, combining sculptural presence with functional comfort. Verner Panton (1926-1998) was a Danish designer and architect. After his architecture degree at the Royal Academy of Copenhagen Panton worked for two years with Arne Jacobsen. He opened his own practice in 1955. Panton is known for his colorful and bold pieces that are architectural in their design as they are able to define space. He most known for his complete interior designs, as he often designed furniture that covered the whole space including ceilings, floors and walls. He used materials such as plastic, metal rods and fabric, all very flexible and technical materials that he used to their full potential. His best known interior examples are the 'Visiona' boats on the occasion of the Cologne Furniture Fair (1968 and 1970), the interior of the Der Spiegel publishing house in Hamburg (1969) and the 'Varna' restaurant in Aarhus (1970) Kindly note that the elements are in good, used condition. The dimensions of the elements arranged as shown in the images are: width 364 cm and depth 135 cm.
