About the Item

A fine quality late Victorian conversation chair/sofa or (Tête-à-Tête) Circa 1890. This finely carved and upholstered serpentine shaped chair/sofa for two people, allowing the sitters to discreetly have a conversation. The curved back supports are ornately carved with a "Green Man" mask surrounded with scrolling foliate, in the Renaissance Revival taste. The chair has turned supports with acanthus leaf caps and shaped spindles to the back, the continuous curved arm with corresponding spindles. The chair seats are upholstered with a high quality cream damask fabric, the seats are very well upholstered and comfortable. The loveseat is raised on four turned legs terminating to carved claw feet, plus one supporting leg to the middle of the sofa. This elegant sofa was the height of fashion in the late 1800s and a family would have been considered affluent and highly fashionable to have such a stylish seat. This lovely sofa for two is in wonderful condition, and is very sturdy and will accommodate two people with ease, a great talking paoint for you and your guests. Our Tête-à-Tête is ready to make its way from our showroom to grace your home.
