About the Item

Ico Parisi (1916-1996) Pair of rare egg sofas Model 812 with brass feet Figli di Amedeo Cassina, Meda, 1953 The measurements of both are approximately 177x77 cm – height 80 cm Origin: the two sofas were purchased in a private collection in Como; The previous owners had purchased these sofas directly from Ico Parisi. Conservation: We have not carried out any restorations or modifications to the sofas or the fabric. The sofas were purchased with the current cardinal red fabric upholstery. In one of his precious and funny letters to the Parisis on 8 February 1954, underneath his sketch of the sofa Ponti writes: Dear Parisi [...] I loved the masterful sofa. I'm enchant-ed by it and I lay my admiration at the feet of the master from Como. Yours, Gio Ponti" (bottom photo on p. 522). Ponti is not exaggerating. The curvy sofa, with its bean-shaped silhouette, is the next logical step from the successful `egg' armchair, an updated version with more seats. The sofa is a quintessential example of balanced prolDortions working in perfect harmony. The sofa is composed of a wooden frame and a metal structure made either from black painted iron rods or brass. The metal is visible in the six legs, which taper off towards the ground and end with a round plate. The seat and backrest are filled with rubber foam and upholstered using either Lastex Arredamento* or Manca* in a variety of colours. The cushion is not removable. The sofa comes in two-seater and three-seater versions, with four or six feet respectively.
