About the Item

An Italian pair of wooden side chairs with chinoiserie and caning from the 18th century. This antique pair of chairs from Italy each features a shapely wood back with scooped top rail, a carved back-splat, with hand-caning framed within the splat and framed sides, and hand-caned seat. The chairs are presented upon cabriole style legs. These 18th century side chairs have an early (and fabulously worn/patina from age) painted finish in hand-painted chinoiserie, comprised of beautiful outdoor scenery, figures, and florals on the back-splat, with more floral and leaf accents adorning the skirt and down each front leg.
