A magnificent and intricately hand-carved 19th-century Anglo-Indian armchair from Burma, crafted circa 1890 and distinguished by its exceptional provenance. This piece was originally owned by an Officer of the British Indian Army stationed in Burma, a rare and highly desirable association that underscores its quality and historical importance.
Expertly carved from solid hardwood (oak or Burmese teak), the chair showcases richly detailed foliate and floral motifs throughout the crest rail, arms, and apron. The craftsmanship reflects the finest work produced in Burmese workshops for British colonial officers—pieces admired for their sculptural depth, durability, and artistry.
The armchair features several notable design elements:
Scrolling and outward-swept arms, typical of luxury Anglo-Indian seating
A slightly reclining back for enhanced comfort
