This piece was originally owned by an Officer of the British Indian Army stationed in Burma, a rare and highly desirable association that underscores its quality and historical importance. Expertly carved from solid hardwood (oak or Burmese teak), the chair showcases richly detailed foliate and floral motifs throughout the crest rail, arms, and apron. The craftsmanship reflects the finest work produced in Burmese workshops for British colonial officers—pieces admired for their sculptural depth, durability, and artistry. The armchair features several notable design elements: Scrolling and outward-swept arms, typical of luxury Anglo-Indian seating A slightly reclining back for enhanced comfort A rare hand-crafted caned back panel with an intricate geometric pattern A later, professionally restored caned seat trimmed with brass tacks A beautifully developed century-old patina This is an armchair of exhibition quality—robust, sculptural, and historically rich. Though over 130 years old, it remains sturdy enough for daily use, making it ideal as an accent chair, study chair, or statement piece within a curated interior. Dimensions: Height: 36 in.
