About the Item
A pair of antique French Louis XVI style side accent chairs sourced from Paris, France. with trapezoidal upholstered backs and refined neoclassical detailing. The backs are framed in molded wood with gently arched crest rails, centered by carved floral reliefs, and supported by straight, slightly raked stiles with carved channel detailing. The front seat rails are gently arched and centered by carved floral tablets, with carved floral corner blocks at the legs. The chairs stand on straight, tapered, fluted legs terminating in simplified turned bun feet.The frames are finished in a whitewashed painted surface with visible wear and exposed wood at raised areas and along the fluting, emphasizing the carved details. Both chairs are upholstered in red velvet damask on the seats and backs. The velvet shows a visible cut-and-uncut pile pattern with tonal variation and depth, and is finished with applied gimp trim framing the upholstered panels. A well-proportioned and visually strong pair suitable for dining or accent seating.
